Champions League: Robert Lewandowski Reaches 100 UCL Goals

  • 27/11/2024 - 11:09

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has etched his name into footballing history, becoming only the third player to surpass 100 goals in the UEFA Champions League.

The Polish star reached the landmark with a first-half penalty against Brest, giving Barcelona the lead before adding a second to secure a 3-0 win in their group-stage clash. The 36-year-old now stands proudly alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the only players to achieve this feat.

"I'm very content, very happy," Lewandowski told Movistar. "Sometimes I didn't believe I would reach this impressive figure in the Champions League. Now I'm in good company with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo."

Elite Company

Ronaldo leads the all-time scoring charts with 140 goals in 183 matches, while Messi follows with 129 in 163 games. Lewandowski hit his century in just 125 appearances, making him faster than Ronaldo (137 games) but slightly behind Messi (123).

With a remarkable 0.8 goals per game average, Lewandowski’s consistency is unmatched. His tally includes 17 penalties, putting him just behind Ronaldo (19) and Messi (18) in spot-kick goals.

A Journey Through Greatness

Lewandowski began his Champions League scoring journey with Borussia Dortmund, where he netted 17 goals. His most prolific spell came with Bayern Munich, contributing 69 goals, before adding 15 (and counting) for Barcelona.

Most of his goals—97 to be exact—have come from inside the box, a testament to his predatory instincts.

Ageless Wonder

Lewandowski's form shows no signs of waning. This season, he has already scored 22 goals in 19 appearances across all competitions, including 15 in La Liga.

Since turning 30, Lewandowski has scored 55 Champions League goals, second only to Ronaldo’s 68 in that age bracket. In Europe’s top five leagues, he leads post-30 scoring with 188 goals, outpacing the likes of Kylian Mbappé, Harry Kane, and Erling Haaland.

A Legacy Secured

Lewandowski’s consistency and hunger for goals have placed him firmly in the pantheon of footballing legends. With Barcelona back in contention domestically and in Europe, the Polish striker continues to rewrite the record books, proving age is just a number.

The Champions League century club is an exclusive group—and Robert Lewandowski has more than earned his place in it.
