Alejandro Garnacho recently had a conversation with Erik ten Hag after he inadvertently liked tweets criticizing his substitution during half-time at Bournemouth and implying unfair treatment by the head coach.
Garnacho quickly unliked the tweets, showing remorse, and the next steps will be decided internally. In the match on Saturday, the Argentine player was taken off while Manchester United was losing 2-1, but they later equalized with a penalty from Bruno Fernandes in the second half.
Despite Garnacho's error leading to the first goal and the second goal coming from United's right side, he did assist in Fernandes' goal before being substituted for Amad Diallo.
Two posts from United YouTuber Mark Goldbridge, with a large following, were liked by Garnacho. One post mentioned that Ten Hag shifted blame to Garnacho in the post-match conference, which was poorly received as it seemed like scapegoating a young player despite his contributions this season.
The other tweet criticized the decision to substitute Garnacho at half-time and label him as the problem, calling it a farce. Garnacho had missed some training sessions due to illness the previous week but did train before the match.
When questioned about taking Garnacho off, Ten Hag stated the need to address issues on the right side of the field and inject fresh energy and quality.
Despite missing training, Garnacho was seen as capable of bringing teamwork and cohesion to the team's play on the right side.
Garnacho has been a key player under Ten Hag, starting in the last 30 matches but has been subbed in the past four games.
Regardless, he has managed to score nine goals and provide four assists this season for United, currently in seventh place in the Premier League.
